What is Second Life?

Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely created by its Residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown explosively and today is inhabited by millions of Residents from around the globe. Each moment, there are 30,000 to 65,000 residents online at the same time together in Second Life.

From the moment you enter this world, you will discover a vast digital continent, teeming with people, entertainment, experiences and opportunity.

You'll also be surrounded by the creations of your fellow Residents. Because Residents retain the rights to their digital creations, they can buy, sell and trade with other Residents.

How do you move around? With your avatar, a personal 3D character which you create and can custom design yourself. With your avatar, you can meet new friends from all over the World, join groups with like interests, and go on virtual adventures together.

You will discover places like Stella Island, Gibson Island (Gibson Guitars), and many other fun places. You can invite your friends, and enjoy events together, even though you may be thousands of miles apart.

The marketplace currently supports millions of US dollars in monthly transactions. This commerce is handled with the in-world unit-of-trade, the Linden dollar, which can be converted to U.S. dollars at several thriving online Linden Dollar exchanges.

Stella Island

We are proud to introduce the online Virtual World of Stella, located on Stella Island inside of Second Life. Here you will experience the future of online activity, which is now called the 3D internet. It is 3D because unlike a simple website, here you can move around within a virtual environment, with your own "Avatar". You can meet friends, have expeiriences, and even purchase virtual products. Stella Island is filled with the creations from Stella's imagination, inspired by her lyrics and real-life concepts.

Virtual Worlds: The 21st Century Album Cover & More

For years artists have had albums, CD covers, and music videos to visually connect listeners to their music. A new era has begun, and virtual worlds are now the "cutting edge" for artists to express their ideas to listeners. In this virtual world, Stella has designed her own attractions, based on her lyrical concepts, her visions, and interests.. Expert designers have helped to create these attractions, and the concepts are continually evolving as new songs and projects begin.

Things to do on Stella Island

While Stella Island is being used for filming videos for new songs, it also has the following attractions open to the public. You can log on and visit them simply by clicking on the Teleport Links in the right column.

Castle Performance Stage

Floating high above the water, is a stunning stage designed for Stella's first performances in Second Life. Performances will be broadcast "live" from Virtual World Arts Studio in Playa Vista California. Visit the stage anytime, and even enjoy playing some of the virtual instruments. Beginning in March, Stella will perform virtual concerts which you can attend at the Castle Stage with your friends, from all over the world!

Romeo & Juliet Restaurant

Located on the large ship in Stella Harbor, this is a virtual restaurant. Order some unique Brazilian specialities, and see what Stella has cooking this week in the kitchen.

Stella Harbor and Beach

Visit the fabulous boats and swim in the virtual ocean in Stella Harbor. There are even some hidden attractions on the ocean floor, but you need to find those!

Butterfly Tour of the Video Sets

Take a butterfly ride from set to set, and get the inside scoop on the upcoming Stella video productions. Two people can ride together. Hint: put your viewer in "mouselook" for the most realistic experience...

Stella Village Virtual Shopping

Technical hints about Second Life:

There are 5 major components to viewing virtual worlds as clearly as possible on your computer, with little or no "lag" or latency.

1. SL Viewers - there are 2 software viewers, the primariy SL viewer, and the new "Windlight" SL Viewer. Windlight is capable of amazing effects, reflective water, atmospheric colors, clouds that are not seen with the normal viewer. It is highly recommended to use it if your computer has a fast processor. Here are the download links:

2. Cable Modem - Essential for great reaction and movement in online gaming and Second Life. DSL is also useable, but your experience will be much slower, as files will take a while to download to your computer's memory.

3. Computer Speed - The faster your computer's processor, the better. The MAC Intel, or G5, and PC's with 800 Mhz Pentium III, Athlon or better are recommended.

4. Graphics Card & Memory - The monitor card you have makes a big difference. See the Recommended Requirements below for specifics.

5. Adjust your SL preferences - Once you have launched Second Life, look in your SL menu preferences, and adjust your graphics settings as high as possible to get the most resolution as possible. Click "custom" preferences for even more detailed viewing abilities.
